The player's defensive play style and recurring reactions on the playing surface had led some to question if his capacity to play at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to approach the net and play positively, supported by an better serve.

The champion recovered from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The pair swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden professional championship, took control to create a decider.

Moutet defended four early chances in a competitive third set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he secured victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
