Cars in Germany's Town Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Officers mentioned they were notified by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau marked with reddish liquid

Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.

The liquid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they stated.

Officers then located many other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for tips.

An important political figure commented the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
